SAMS
Software Information
The Student Administration and Management System (SAMS) was
introduced into NT Government schools in 2002, with all NT
Government schools being implemented by the end of 2003 (Independent
schools - see below).
The Modules in SAMS provide
a means for recording / tracking:
- Student information including contact details and enrolment
information
- Subject/Course/Class information
- Attendance records
- School to school transfers (student tracking)
- Scheduling and Timetabling
- Results reporting including Assessment and Certification
for SSABSA and VET
- Behaviour management
reporting
- Monitoring and reporting against the NT Curriculum Framework
using the NT Curriculum module
- Operational and Management reporting
- Teacher information
- Relief teacher allocation via the Cover module (on request)
- Special Educational Needs management via the SEN module
The web-based Student Tracker allows schools
to locate a student’s previous school(s), and download
directly from Centris into SAMS basic student details including
the unique student identifier (UPN or Unique Pupil Number).
This unique student ID, or UPN, allows more accurate tracking
of student movements, as well as monitoring student performance
and outcomes across various schools.
SAMS incorporates automated submission of Enrolment and Attendance
statistics, data capture and centralised data storage (Centris
- see below).
Centris
Centris is a related product from RMA, a central database
which regularly captures information from all schools and
stores it in a central location. It draws data from schools
for analysis and reporting. Information is processed for onward
distribution and used for tracking students (Student Tracker
- see below), management and Commonwealth reporting.
Data can be returned to schools after processing for use
in comparisons for benchmarking against like schools, state
and national data.
Independent Schools
A number of Independent Schools in the Northern Territory
currently use SAMS.
For further details:
Modules
General and Admin Module
These two modules are foundation Integris modules holding
the core school, student and staff records. They are used
for general Student and Staff Administration tasks, recording
and reporting on a wide range of details, including activities,
contact and medical details.
Lesson Attendance Module
Lesson Attendance works in partnership with Integris Administration
to form an interconnected attendance information system. It
manages the collection and processing of statutory attendance
data by am/pm or by lesson in a variety of ways and assists
with the analysis of attendance records for individuals, groups
or at whole school level.
NT Curriculum Module (Curriculum Manager)
The Curriculum Manager provides for planning, monitoring/evaluating
and reporting of individuals and groups of students against
the NT Curriculum Framework (NTCF). It allows teachers to
develop education plans based on the NTCF, track student progress
and evaluate their performance, and produces reports to parents.
Assessment Module
The Assessment Manager is usually but not exclusively used
by secondary schools, consolidating school assessments into
a single data store that links with Microsoft Excel. It creates
individual teacher and subject markbooks that link with student
administration data and can be shared between student groups
working to the same assessment criteria.
Transitional Reports Module
This module has components for non-outcomes reporting of student
performance including grades and post-compulsory reporting
to other agencies and parents. It produces student report
cards in a variety of different formats, styles and outputs
including HTML versions that can be viewed with a web browser.
The module links with student administration data, and information
can be imported.
Timetabling Module
The Timetabling Module holds student preferences and the school
timetable, and allows manual manipulation of the data. It
also provides auto scheduling capabilities for the support
of timetable generation.
SEN Module (Special Educational Needs)
Records and reports on Needs Profiles (Diagnostic data and
Severity of Needs), events (e.g. meetings, visits and assessments),
service provision and delivery details, specialist contact
information and visits, as well as an events calendar for
students with Special Educational Needs.
Behaviour Module
Records and reports on a wide range of student behaviour in
detail (eg time and location), linking to student activity
logs and lesson attendance. It records and produces documentation
such as notification to Head Office (eg suspension notification),
parents, teachers and other relevant staff, and includes suspension
tracking, appeals processes and behaviour plans.
VET Module
The VET Module is used by schools who offer VET to their students,
allowing for the complete management and recording of Vocational
Education and Training units of study.
SSABSA Module
The SSABSA Module facilitates data exchange with the Senior
Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia, interacting
with the DATEX Online system.
Billing Module
The Billing Module generates accounts for fees, student charges
and book lists. It serves as an effective way of bulk billing
students for items such as school voluntary contributions,
charges, camp and excursion fees. An additional function allows
generation of invoices for non-students.
NOTE: This module is currently not implemented in Northern
Territory Government schools.
Cover Module
The Cover Module can be used to allocate Relief cover when
a member of staff is known to be absent. It can be used with
or without the Timetabling module installed.
