Objectives
The goal of the Laptops for
Teachers Program is to provide Northern Territory teachers
with means to become proficient users of Information Technology
and to be able to integrate this into their teaching and administration
practices. The objectives of the program are to:
- reward and provide an incentive for teachers undertaking
significant professional development in the use of learning
technologies,
- provide tools for teachers so they can consolidate their
professional development and improve their skills and confidence
level in relation to Information, Communications and Technology,
- support and encourage Principals and teachers to effectively
integrate the use of learning technologies into classroom
and administrative practices, and
- enhance the professional status of teachers
Eligible Staff
Laptops will be allocated to individual Teachers rather than
schools under the new program with the following teaching
positions being eligible for a personal allocation:
- Frontline teaching position paid by the NT Government
with a teaching load greater than or equal to 50%;
- Teachers in Principal or Assistant Principal positions;
- Teachers in the 5 Government funded remote catholic schools.
The distribution of Laptops for these teachers will be managed
by the Catholic Education Office.
Eligible staff will need to sign a usage agreement before
receiving their computer and the serial number will be recorded
as an asset in the personnel system (PIPS) against the individual
teachers.
Teachers will retain their laptop while they remain in an
eligible teaching position and will take it when they move
between schools.
Laptops must be returned to the Department via the last school
when teachers leave DET employment or move into a non eligible
position. Teachers must return their laptop when they are
on leave for greater than 3 months with the exception of approved
study leave.
Teachers who do not return their laptop when ceasing employment
will have the replacement cost deducted from their final pay.
The Laptop Use Agreement is located here.
Appeals and Special Considerations
A teacher may appeal against the non allocation of a laptop
under the standard eligibility criteria where there are valid
reasons why the laptop provisions should be extended to cover
their situation.
A teacher may seek special consideration for retaining their
laptop whilst on extended leave greater than or equal to 3
months where there is a valid reason to extend the provisions
to cover their situation.
These appeal/special consideration requests will be dealt
with by the Director Audit Services on a case by case basis
and can be emailed to vic.czernezkyj@nt.gov.au.
