Technology
The Interactive eLearning Initiative
provides two-way broadband Internet Protocol (IP) services
to support interactive teaching and learning for school-age
Distance Education/School of the Air (DE/SOTA) students, students
and adults in isolated aboriginal communities, and adults
living in small regional towns/communities and seeking vocational
education.
Satellite technology will be
used for the distribution of broadband services using both
two-way and one way satellite customer infrastructure.
Terrestrial communications backbones
are used to provide a 1Mbs link between the teaching studios
and the Satellite Earth Station.

Government and non-government
schools can access the service through one-way satellite equpment
installed at each school. Isolated homesteads and Aboriginal
communities access the service through two-way satellite equipment
installed at each defined location.
The core application REACT can be used as
either a presentation or video conferencing tool. Presentations
must be conducted from an IDL studio eg NTOEC, Alice Springs
School of the Air or Katherine School of the Air or using
a portable presenter eg IT Services Portable Presenter. A
Video Conference can be conducted between users using the
client version of REACT.
