ICT Teacher Capabilities Continuum and Self-Assessment
Tool
Early 2003 a working group was established with representatives
from DET and Charles Darwin University.
A self-evaluation guide developed by representatives from
DET and Charles Darwin University depicts teacher growth in
using ICT. This indicates four developmental phases that individuals
can progress through to reach a point of leading and enabling
ICT integration in teaching and learning. This continuum is
organised into 3 strands:
- Vision
- Approach & Ethics
- Classroom Integration
An online skills survey (EdCap) has also been developed
that will plot individual teachers on to the continuum at
the appropriate phase. EdCap can be accessed by all teachers
http://edcap.ntschools.net
The ICT Teacher Continuum and EdCap the online survey tool
are combined to form the Teacher capabilities Package. The
purpose is to improve student outcomes through the integrated
use of ICT in teaching and learning.
The ICT Teacher Capabilities Package also helps teachers
identify Professional Learning Pathways that teachers can
access in order to further their development along the continuum.
This then links with DET’s Performance Enhancement Framework
by helping to identify performance requirements and assist
with career development.
