@School IT Academy
Diploma of Network Engineering
DET is looking to establish an online IT Academy where students and staff will be offered accredited online and interactive training in computer software, hardware and networking. DET IT Academy courses will provide flexible pathways to certification and industry accreditation for staff and students who wish to pursue careers in the IT industry.
The Academy will provide access to vocational education (VET) certificate and Higher Education Diploma units for learners. Each unit will have a structured set of online and interactive learning resources that will include:
- Course outline, accreditations and competencies
- Accredited teachers/lecturers
- Residential components where required
- In School mentoring and tutorial support
Two courses will be offered in 2010 with more being offered in subsequent years.
- IT Essentials, entry level course material that, on completion, will enable students to sit external Comptia exams. Comptia certification is an industry standard and is recognised internationally.
- Diploma of Network Engineering, for students and staff with prior and /or recognised experience in IT. Graduates will have the skill to design, commission and maintain data networks.
- The Microsoft and CISCO certified programs will be offered from 2011.
Both courses can be delivered online by CDU and will potentially overcome the challenges of access to quality and specialist training packages for students and staff in urban and remote locations. Please see attached flyer and Expression of Interest for staff (not limited to teachers) and students.
Course fees for students and staff enrolling in IT Academy Units in 2010 will be met by the @School program.

Projects
'Not for
NEALS'
Online Curriculum Projects provide a world of unique learning
opportunities for teachers and students using current online
technologies. Students find them motivational, challenging
and relevant as they build on a concept or theme of interest.
Information and communication technologies are used by participants
to communicate and collaborate on a common task beyond the
classroom.
The use of technologies enables teachers to extend their students
beyond the traditional boundaries, physical locations and
resources of the school.
Choose from Australian projects, Support projects and Global
projects.
Online projects take a variety of forms that include but
are not limited to:
the collection of real time data
collaboration with others to reach peers and experts around
the world
problem solving and investigating specific topics
research investigations
exchange of ideas, options and experiences
