Telecommunications
Telstra is the telecommunications service
provider for all DEET schools.
There
are three main forms of data/Internet services that are
provided to schools:
-
G-WIP – GWIP
network is a broadband service providing a single fibre
access at each school site. These school sites are based
in urban locations.
-
G-BIP – GBIP
provides connection to the network using Symmetric High
Bit-rate DSL (SHDSL) services. These sites are schools
located in regional and remote locations.
-
Satellite –
SkyConnect Private Network will be used to provide connectivity
to remote sites. These sites do not have ready access
to land based infrastructure because of their degree of
remoteness.
Attached in the spreadsheet below
is a listing of all schools and their Telstra site code
that must be used when logging support calls for telecommunications
issues with the IT Service Centre.

Tellique in Remote Satellite Schools
Web requests from the schools are redirected through the
tellique server to the Optus satellite bandwidth, there
by reducing demands on the existing Telstra network and
more effectively using the outbound IDL Optus bandwidth.
Schools were nominated by the regional directors and the
Director of NTDLS and then Tellique rolled out.
