ICT Update

30th May 2007

ePass Lift off Day - 4th June

All schools will be able to use ePass from Monday the 4th of June to create and modify user accounts and reset passwords. During the transition period ICTs can still call or email the ePass administrator but we encourage schools and users to request these services through ePass.

Users with existing NTSchools accounts will need to change their windows password using (ctrl) (alt) (delete) before they access ePass to synchronise their ePass and NTSchools passwords. Old windows passwords cannot be reused and the new passwords must be a minimum of 6 characters or letters.

We recommend all users answer the authentication questions when they first go into their ePass account as this allows them to reset their own password if it is forgotten by answering the authentication question.

From Monday any requests for new and modified accounts will generate emails to principals and users in the senior staff group who can go to ePass and approve the requests. Any member of the principal or senior staff group can approve ePass requests.

Approvers must check the details of the request, especially the role and additional responsibilities because these grant access to school resources. Approvers will need to reset their own passwords to get access to ePass as described above.

Any requests for the assignment of the Principal role to a user will be sent to the ePass administrator for approval.

Full details on the features and operation of ePass can be found here.

If users have difficulties accessing ePass they can call the administrator directly on 8999 5613 or email onlineservices.deet@nt.gov.au.

Microsoft License Charges

Invoices are being sent to all schools for their contribution to the Microsoft licences. The licensing volumes and costs have been adjusted to reflect the feedback from schools on the preliminary list issued last week.

New Dell Account Manager

Julia Jones is moving on to a new position and will be replaced by Yoni Meinrath. Yoni will be the primary contact for schools placing orders with Dell and he can be contacted on the following:

Email: Yoni_Meinrath@dell.com
Phone: 02 8972 5732
Fax: 02 8972 6732

ICTC online training

We have had a tremendous response to the new ICT online training course which provides participants with the knowledge required to provide frontline support in schools and to contact the schools service desk. To date, 41 staff have completed the course and another 28 are currently enrolled.

Existing ICTCs are also encouraged to register for the online course as information and processes have changed significantly since moving to the NTSchools environment.

Web Usage Monitoring

The webalizer tool introduced in April is providing excellent information on the nature and volume of downloads however many users have asked when it will have the facility to link usage to particular users. We are currently working with Editure to provide a link from the Webalizer statistics to individual user accounts.
