Update
22nd May 2007
NT Schools Portal
Phase one of the recently developed NT Schools Portal is
being rolled out to all schools this term with many schools
already having undertaken portal administrator training. In
summary all schools will have access to NT Schools portal
by 30 June and all urban schools will have trained portal
administrators by 30 May 2007.
At this stage the following has been completed:
- Portal Training has been delivered to 12 schools in Central
Storm and Desert Oaks Clusters and 15 schools in the PARCS
cluster. All remaining schools in these clusters have access
to their school portals.
- Training for schools in the Darwin City cluster is scheduled
for 23/05/07 and Northern Suburbs cluster is scheduled for
30/05/07.
Microsoft Licensing Schools Contributions Now Due
The annual schools contribution for Microsoft Licences is
now due. Each school is required to pay $30 per year for each
computer that is loaded with the Microsoft Office Suite excluding
teacher laptops. The table attached
shows the number of DELL computers that have been supplied
or purchased by each school and the license fees owing. Invoices
will be sent to each school from IT services for the relevant
amount.
Vista and Office 2007
Some people have asked when schools will be able to use Windows
Vista and Office 2007. We are keen to implement these new
products as they offer a range of benefits for end users and
the technical support staff however the upgrade does require
a significant reconfiguration of the NT schools management
systems and the testing and integration of existing software.
IT Services feels that we need to have a period of stability
to allow the NT Schools architecture to settle down before
we embark on more change.
The dates for these upgrades are not set but 2008 looks like
an opportune time. In the meantime all hardware purchased
under the Dell contracts is Vista capable and will be upgraded
under the program.
NTSchools Epass
The school based self-service functions which are the final
step in the Epass implementation are now running in a number
of pilot schools and we plan to rollout to all schools and
users before the end of the term. The system is fully functional
so the only rollout activities will be presentation and training
for ICTC’s and other school based delegates.
The Epass project team will be in touch with ICTC's shortly
to schedule the activation of your school.
ICTC online training
ICT Coordinators play an essential role in
NT Schools. This role is ongoing and transferable between
schools. All schools are required to have at least one ICTC,
who is responsible for first level support and troubleshooting
in the school.
Staff members can be granted ICTC status
following the successful completion of the recently developed
online course. This course covers all content required for
management at the school and will take about 60 - 90 minutes
to complete. Additionally the ICT Coordinator is responsible
for logging all requests for support with the helpdesk. (NOTE:
Principals can also contact the helpdesk).
Access to the online course can be activated
by sending a request email to:
onlineservices.deet@nt.gov.au
Following successful completion of the ICTC online test, results
are forwarded to ITSD. Staff at ITSD will then request approval
from the school principal and notify Editure of new ICTC status.
Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) Professional

If you are currently using IWB's in your
school and would like to maximize the impact they have on
student learning, then don't miss out on this exciting opportunity
to work with Viv White, a well respected and credentialed
interstate presenter, who will be visiting Darwin at the end
of this term. Viv currently works with the Australian National
Schools Network, The Learning Federation and Victorian Schools
developing teacher capacity to ensure schools get the most
out of their IWBs. She will be in Darwin working with 3 schools
as a result of an NTAGQTP grant.
